CAII Students Honored with 2025 Fiddler Innovation Undergraduate and Graduate Fellowship Awards

We are thrilled to announce that several outstanding students from the Center for Artificial Intelligence Innovation (CAII) have been selected to receive the prestigious 2025 Fiddler Innovation Fellowship Award, recognizing their exceptional interdisciplinary research and innovative contributions.

Graduate Fellowship Award

Heather Broome
Heather has been awarded the 2025 Fiddler Innovation Graduate Student Fellowship for her exemplary work with the REU FoDoMMaT program. Her leadership in training REU students, advising on machine learning and AI applications, and enabling efficient project completion has made a lasting impact.

Undergraduate Fellowship Awards

Kai Karadi, Torrie Blasko, Fiona Campbell
These talented members of our Visual Nutrition Project have been selected for the 2025 Fiddler Innovation Undergraduate Student Fellowship Award. They were nominated for their outstanding interdisciplinary contributions to developing an AI-powered mobile application that tracks nutritional intake and delivers personalized advice. Their collaborative research exemplifies the spirit of innovation and cross-disciplinary exploration that the fellowship celebrates.

About the Fellowship

The Fiddler Innovation Fellowship is part of a $2 million endowment from Jerry Fiddler and Melissa Alden to the University of Illinois. Administered through the Illinois Emerging Digital Research and Education in Arts Media (eDream) Institute at NCSA, the fellowship supports student and faculty initiatives that bridge disciplines and spark new ideas. Each graduate student awardee receives $2,000 in recognition of their achievements.
