The Center for Artificial Intelligence Innovation (CAII) is pleased to share information about two sessions being organized by CADRE at the 2027 American Meteorological Society (AMS) Annual Meeting, taking place January 10–14 in Denver, CO. CADRE — the Multi‑University Consortium for Advanced Data Assimilation Research and Education (of which the U of I is a key non-funded university partner) — is a national collaboration focused on advancing data assimilation science, training the next generation of DA researchers, and strengthening partnerships between universities and NOAA. CADRE works across institutions to address scientific, technical, and workforce challenges associated with next‑generation high‑resolution, multiscale, and coupled Earth system modeling.

CADRE is inviting submissions from current collaborators, NOAA partners, and prospective future collaborators — including those interested in engaging with UIUC. We encourage our CAII community to consider submitting abstracts to either of the sessions.

Session 1: Cross‑fertilization of Machine Learning and Data Assimilation
This session focuses on the rapidly expanding interface between machine learning (ML) and data assimilation (DA), including shared theoretical foundations, optimization tools, and complementary strengths. Presentations are welcomed in:
• ML‑based data assimilation
• Integrating ML into traditional DA workflows
• Applying DA principles to enhance ML methods
Session 2: The Multi‑University Consortium for Advanced Data Assimilation Research and Education (CADRE)
This session addresses multiscale, nonlinear, and coupled DA challenges central to improving short‑range (sub‑hour) to seasonal prediction. Students, scientists, and faculty from CADRE institutions, NOAA collaborators, and future partners are encouraged to participate.
